A Time of Tests

Concerned for my father-in-law's health and recovery. He's currently in the hospital, most likely awaiting back surgery, but we're not sure when this will happen. Thanks to my friends and family for their healing prayers, good wishes and support during this challenging time.

Quote for the Day (or Month)

Hmmm. I have been VERY neglectful of this blog during the last few months. I've been playing over on Facebook a lot (unpaid plug...sorry! LOL) and so friends and family have caught up with me there. But I stumbled across this interesting quote yesterday when I was reading a book. The book was by the psychiatrist who was a consultant on the movie "Rain Man" with Dustin Hoffman. He included a quote from a great and legendary man that I found fascinating. I wanted to share it with you here. I hope you are all well. :)

"I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."

-Sir Isaac Newton

...And the hits just keep on coming!

Okay, this is not a note of foreboding doom, just a quote I like from the movie "A Few Good Men" starring Tom Cruise. It just means that there's a lot of stuff going on right now, both at work and personally. I'm scrambling to keep up! Not much of an explanation, right? LOL

But I do like the film's message of honor, respect and standing up for what's right when it isn't popular or even recommended. These are attributes that I try to incorporate into my life, even when I'm having a really rough time of it. Thank goodness for the little victories along the way.

Uh oh...it's been almost a month!

Sorry to everyone. I've been really neglecting my blog here. Okay, if people really know me, they realize I've been pretty much doing updates over on my Facebook profile (unplanned--and unpaid--website plug).

But, my husband and I just celebrated our 6th wedding anniversary. Hooray! And we just got back from a great week's vacation. Tomorrow is back to work (and real life). Take a deep breath and go forward!

Is it June already?

Good grief! My mother was right that time flies (as you get older)! My wedding anniversary is approaching quickly. It's amazing...6 years already! I definitely got lucky with my life partner. He's a keeper.

Happy June everyone!

STAR TREK LIVES!

The new Star Trek movie is out! Flawlessly logical.

'Nuff said.

Age...it's all Relative

I had a conversation with a female colleague the other day concerning our ideas on age, with some interesting results. To our grandparents, our parents are the kids, and we are just babies. I discovered that I'm 16 years older than my colleague's husband, which momentarily made me feel weirdly old. But then it was all put into perspective, since I got asked for ID in buying a bottle of wine for a friend's wedding two days ago. So long story short, we're only as old as we feel it seems. And on that note...have a great weekend everyone!

Two Words: Colds Stink!

But at least my husband and I are dealing with this together. I'm sorry he's sick too, but at least we can remind each other to take our medicine. Everyone I talk to you lately is getting over this, so friends, take your Vitamin C and stay well! Gotta go and grab some more Kleenex for now. Have a good weekend.

An Irish Birthday!

A very Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband today. He's Irish-Scottish in background, but very American in accent and personality. (Although he does love golf...) He got a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and tonight we are going out for a family dinner. No cooking or dishes! Awesome. Here's my thought for the day in form of a great quote from a favorite actor of mine. The whole article can be found at the link below. Now, let's open up a Guinness!

"I'll trade wisdom for youth any day."

Is it time to build an ark yet?

Look, I know we need the rain. But does it have to happen all at once? At least I have my trusty Tigger umbrella to keep me dry (unless the wind gusts come up). Here's a funny bit for rather soggy Monday thoughts. Refer to "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" for this.

"Ted, who is Joan of Arc?"

"Noah's wife?"

Here Comes The Sun!

With apologies to The Beatles...but I'm overjoyed to actually see blue sky and the funny yellow orb up there for a change! Enjoy the nice weather and I hope your sunglasses are handy as well. Let's all look like Hollywood stars for a minute or two with our shades. Just don't wear them at night. Important safety hint.

Let It (Not) Snow!

Okay, I want the snowpack to be healthy and we do need rain. But snow at higher elevations please! I set a commute home record yesterday. It usually takes me 10 minutes and it took me 1 1/2 hours to go approximately 4 to 5 miles. UGH.

Drive safely everyone and stay warm! (And if anyone wants to do a sun dance, now would be the time. Thank You)

Happy Chinese New Year!

...or Gung hay fat choy (in Chinese). May you all have a prosperous and joyful year. The Year of the Ox has begun. All the best!

A New Hope

No, this is not a "Star Wars" post. But today was a moment in history. Our 44th president of the United States and the first African-American man to hold the post was sworn in today. Below is one sentence of his remarkable inaugural speech. I am inspired by this change in our country and I am hopeful for the future.

"On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord."

You can find the entire text of President Barack Obama's speech here:

Goodbye to a Legend

Some sad news from the entertainment world.

Mr. Ricardo Montalban (1920-2009) passed away this morning. He was 88 years old. He will be forever remembered as both Mr. Roarke from "Fantasy Island" and Khan Noonien Singh from "Star Trek" but I also remember him from a sad, yet amazing movie in the 1950's called "Sayonara" starring Marlon Brando and Red Buttons. He was also quite an inspiration for the Latino community in the acting world and was a true gentleman.

Via Con Dios, sir.
